The champions of FIFA World Cup are awarded World Cup trophy for every four years since the beginning of the inaugural competition in 1930. The historical background for World Cup can be traced back to 1928, when the president of FIFA decided to establish the global football competition for men. The global supervision body chose Uruguay as the host state for celebrating the FIFA competition for men. However, it is only the year 1942 and 1946 whereby the FIFA was not held because of the WWII. Although Sir Thomas Trophy is at times recognized as the First World Trophy; the 1930 World Cup is one of the certified football competition recognized as the First World Cup. The earlier host countries for FIFA World Cup were given to those countries that participated in the FIFA congress, but choosing the location had disruptive issues. Although the first international football team was played first in the year 1872, in Glasgow, Jules Rimet came with the ideas of FIFA World Cup in 1928; hence marked the first written international football tournament. Historical Background The historical background for World Cup can be traced back in 1928 when Jules Rimet, the president of FIFA decided to establish the global football competition for men. Although the first international football team was played first in the year 1872, in Glasgow, Jules Rimet came with the ideas of FIFA World Cup, hence marked the first written international football match (FIFA World Cup, 2013). The first FIFA began in Uruguay, which was chosen as the host nation; thus, the final competition of only thirteen teams played for the final World Cup. The world Cup has qualified effectively since the first edition of the international football events. This international football team has significantly attracted many nations; thus, there are currently 32 teams in the final tournament. These squads have proceeded by a two-year qualifying method that involves almost 200 teams from across the globe. Previous International Competitions Scotland and England became the earliest national football teams to participate in the worldwide football tournament that occurred in Glasgow, in the year 1872. However, the events rarely took place outside the Great Britain during this period. The football match started gaining ground across the globe during the year 1900, and many national football associations were established (Hunt and Federation Internationale de Football Association, 2006). Uruguay and Argentina played the first the First FIFA competition outside the British islands (Hunt and Federation Internationale de Football Association, 2006). It was further founded in Parish during the year 1904 whereby many teams were formed that comprised football associations from countries such as Belgium, Denmark, France, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden and also Germany which pledged to join the football associations. In addition, the International Olympic Committee recognized the Olympic sport when the football competition started becoming popular across the globe. The Summer Olympics in 1904 and the interceded games of 1906 in Summer Olympics received adequate supervision before joining an official FIFA team. Therefore, England organized the national football alliance during the 1908 football Olympics, but the football event was for only part-time players. However, there was significant attempt to make FIFA recognize international football competition among countries that were outside the summer Olympic framework (Miller, Vandome and McBrewster, 2009). This took place in 1906 in Switzerland, but the international football official history of world cup regards this competition as a failure (Hunt and Federation Internationale de Football Association, 2006). The competition involving professional teams began to appear when the summer Olympic teams continued to contest only among the amateur teams; thus, competitors among the professional teams also began to emerge. Sir Lipton prepared for the football event, which took place in Turin during the year 1902. The national teams contested, thus for this basis, the Thomas Lipton Cup became at times recognized as the First World Trophy. First World Cup Although Sir Thomas Trophy is at times recognized as the First World Trophy, the 1930 World Cup is one of the certified football competition recognized as the First World Cup. The victory of Summer Olympic football competition strengthened the desire of FIFA for its own competition (FIFA World Cup, 2013). Many questionnaires were sent to diverse affiliated organizations asking whether they have agreed for the organization of FIFA tournament and in what conditions. Thereafter, a special group under the guidance of President Juliet Rimet organized for the first World Cup in 1930. Henri Delaunay, the secretary of the French football organizations also helped president Jules to organize for the First World Cup tournament. The FIFA assembly that was held in Amsterdam on May 1928 made a noteworthy bid, which contributed to the enactment of the world finals of the First World Cup. Right from the beginning of proposals of FIFA championship, Uruguay was the favorite place for FIFA tournaments. This was not because it was the gold medal in Summer Olympic football in 1924, but also it was celebrating their 100th independence anniversary in 1930 (Labuschagne, 2008). Furthermore, the national alliance of Uruguay was ready to take all the travel and housing costs for the participating national teams. The first finals went well despite the economic crisis in Europe; hence, the First FIFA World Cup began a new era in world football, and the inaugural event was proved a remarkable success. Details of (Cup tournament) World Cup Previously, there had been no tournament prize but many countries have been giving the prize to an individual within the team players. However, the tournaments nowadays issued after the final game, and it is issued to the winning side, which is recognized as the Man of the Match. Although the prize is given to the player from any national team, it is mostly awarded the winning team. However, some sports have different and unique styles regarding the cup tournament awards. Many of them receive the awards after the finals, or the stars, in the football game, have won the prize. In some football sport organizations such as in the USA, the most valuable player is awarded the cup tournaments while, in Australia, the best and fairest is awarded the cup tournament (Blackshaw, 2010). In the national association football, the cup tournament award usually is given or awarded to the winning side of the football team. Players who score well or employ tricks or goalkeepers who keep a clear record sheet under the surrounding pressure always receive the award of the cup tournament. The hat trick also receives wards even though they are not among the Man of the Match, but not all the cup tournaments have official Man of the Match (Miller, Vandome and McBrewster, 2009). Ways to Qualify for the World Cup The Qualification process for the international football team takes varied process that makes them qualify for the final match of the World Cup. The national teams should undergo thorough training programmes in order to qualify for the finals. Therefore, they play in the semi-finals, and the two national teams compete for the finals. The champion team that qualifies in the final rounds receives tickets for participating in the FIFA tournament. For example, the 2014 FIFA is still underway in their qualification process. Since FIFA World cup is a global event, the qualification process is carried out in order to eliminate the larger numbers of participants from about 200 teams to the minimum numbers of 32 teams (Blackshaw, 2010). Qualifications process for the FIFA tournaments are held within the six continents zones, and they are being reorganized by their respective confederations. FIFA makes a decision beforehand on the number of a football match awarded to each continental zone. This depends on the relative power of the union teams. For instance, the 201 FIFA qualifications were commenced from the beginning of the year 2007 and ended in late 2009; thus, the qualifiers got the qualification certificates to participate in 2010 FIFA World Cup. Choosing the Host for the World Cup There have been controversial issues in the assortment procedure for the host of World Cup competition. Earlier host countries for FIFA World Cup were given to those countries that participated in the FIFA congress but choosing the location had been disruptive issues. The declaration to embrace the First World Cup in Uruguay led to increased competition among the European nations. After that, Italy became the second host country; thus, they hosted the World Cup in their country in 1934. However, the 1938 World cup that took place in France had varied disputes. This is because the South American nations understood that the location could alternate between the two nations that are Argentina and Uruguay, but they both boycotted from the incident. However, the 1942 and 1946 were cancelled; thus, there was no decision made on the host nations because of WWII and eventually Brazil became the next nation to hold the 1950 World Cup tournament. In order to avoid this controversies and boycotts, FIFA employed a pattern of alternating the host World Cup nations among the European and the American nations. South African again became the first country to host 2010 World Cup tournament since the 2002 World Cup that mutually hosted by Japan and South Korea, which was the only manifold hosts. Thus, Brazil is another host nation that will host the 2014 World Cup tournament (Fellet, 2013). However, the executive committees of FIFA have implemented exhaustible ballot box method that enables the country wishing to host the sports event to receive a Hosting Agreement. This agreement reveals the necessary steps and requirements anticipated from the strong bid; thus avoiding the hosting scenarios and controversies arising in the decision making process for hosting FIFA tournaments.
