This issue has raised many controversies on whether it is legally defensible. The legitimacy of this practice remains an issue of concern. Other employers stress that one cannot speak his or her home language while at work. They argue out that it is tantamount to rudeness and should result in disciplinary action. Employees look at it from a perspective of denial in terms of expressing themselves and associating with others. However, there are legitimate reasons why managers are justified to form such regulations in the workplace.

When a real business reason is in existence, then the manager can institute the rule. For the sake of customer safety and service, a similar language needs to be in place. The employees need to maintain excellent public relations patterns with the target customers. In doing so, customers feel welcomed and valued. It also promotes business sales. In another way, a few employees without English knowledge may feel left out and alienated from others who are quick in expressing themselves in English.

They may think they are being gossiped about in the workplace. Differences in workplace subside managers institute such changes.
