Your Full 16 February Post-Modernism in art and architecture. In order to sustain the meaning of Post-Modern art the focus must be drawn to Post-Modernism. To date Post-Modernism is not easily defined. It is a term that appears in several areas of study such as art, literature, technology, film, and music. The term itself stems from Modernism. The primary characteristic of Post-Modernism theory is “seeing reality as what individuals or social groups make it to be”(Postmodern Theory, 2011).

Post-Modernism can be defined in several ways that would include: 1. “Any of a number of trends or movements in the arts and literature developing in the 1970s in reaction to or rejection of the dogma, principles, or practices of established modernism, especially a movement in architecture and the decorative arts running counter to the practice and influence of the International Style and encouraging the use of elements from historical vernacular styles and often playful illusion, decoration, and complexity”(Post-Modernism 1, 2011). 2. “Characteristic of a style and school of thought that rejects the dogma and practices of any form of modernism; in architecture, contrasting with international modernism and featuring elements from several periods, esp the Classical and often with ironic use of decoration”(Post-Modernism 2, 2011). 3. “A movement, particularly in architecture, that reacted against the pared-down modern school by reintroducing classical and traditional elements of style”(Post-Modernism 3, 2005).

Focusing more on the study of Post-Modern art it can be said that it is significantly different from that of Modern art. Post-Modern art is not definite in understanding. Individuals can not define its elements because they are surreal. In order to get meaning from post artwork the onlooker has to interpret for themselves the meaning and significance that the work holds. Stylistically, Post-Modern art is what comes after art of the modern day. This artwork is anti-modernism because it challenges the beliefs of current reality.

It definitely has verisimilitude. Concrete truth can be seen, however, rather than being bound to what is likely it plays on probability and going outside of the box. As for abstraction art, Post-Modern art can definitely be that because it focuses on visionary principles. Some examples of Post-Modern artwork are : 1. Fractal Art by Vicky Brago-Mitchell - http://www.abm-enterprises.net/fractal-art/postmodern-wallpaper.jpg 2. Little Red Ridinghood and Santa Claus on Mississippi by Francis Berry - http://www.

Post-Modern Haste Drawing by Mushtaq Bhat - http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/post-modern-haste-mushtaq-bhat.jpg and 5. Tonic Moment: Cornucopia by Francis Berry http://francisberry.com/images/zoom/postmodern_ecological_art.jpg Post-Modernism there are several different definitions but one main purpose, to dispense an alternative view.

Post-Modern art differs dramatically from that of the Modern. The arts can give a lasting impression of the meaning of Post-Modernism today. References Post-Modernism 1 - "postmodernism."
