Introduction Animation design involves the creation of images such as in films and movies (Creative Regions 2012). There are various organizations and institutions involved in this industry. These organizations have different peak bodies that champion for their interests. These peak bodies operate at the local, national and international levels. Several feeder bodies and government instrumentalities are also active in the art and design industry. Besides animation design these bodies and instrumentalities are also involved with other forms of art and design. The focus of this report is to describe these organizations, their main activities and their role of representation to the government and the network of relations among these peak bodies. Australia council for the arts This organization is involved in providing funds for arts projects in the entire of Australia. It also formulates and implements policies to support Australian arts. Besides funds provision the Australian council for arts gives advice to the government on issues related to arts. Every year the council releases more than 1700 grants to arts organizations and artists. The Australian council also develops strategies for acquiring new art markets and audiences in Australia and outside the country. The Australia council obtains its funds from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and Arts (Australia Government 2012). The Australia council has the role of linking the arts organizations to the government by way of representation. It works at increasing the levels of awareness about issues related to animation design and other arts at the government and the policy levels. The Australian council encourages the states, the local government bodies and other organizations to support animation design and the other arts (Australia Government 2012). In order to attain its objectives of assisting arts organizations to succeed in their activities and to allow Australians to enjoy arts the council develops the policy for arts funding and advices the Australian government. They make investments that can make people in Australia to enjoy arts. They research the culture and arts sectors so that they can identify the behavior of audiences and the trends to know what makes people in Australia to get involved in animation design and other arts. The findings of such research are used to guide the participation and development plans of government among other institutions. The data from the research also helps the sector to improve on its capacity to interact with government (Australia Government 2012). Games developers association of Australia (GDAA) The GDAA was formed in 1999 as a non governmental, non profit making organization representing the interest of the organizations within the game development industry in Australia. The association promotes the game development industry at the local and international levels. It attracts and retains the development talent, attracts investment and global game publisher interest, working with educational organizations and promotes the game development community in Australia. In its representation of the industry to the government the game development association gives advice to government on the opportunities and trends in the industry (Creative Regions 2012). Design institute of Australia The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) is a peak body tasked with the role of serving organizations and design professionals in Australia in various ways. It provides support for networking for the communities involved in design at the state and national level. It gives training to the champions to improve their professions (Creative Regions 2012). It also provides professional link between the government and the design professional organizations. It therefore links the industry to the government. It provides information to the community about the activities of the industry. It creates and relays information concerning the industry to the institute’s members so that they can use it to improve their practice professionally. It avails organized volunteers for the events of the design industry as well as those needed to support the initiatives of the government. It formally links the design professionals in Australia to the design organizations at the international level. It also oversees the professional practice standard in a documented format in order to improve the status of designers (Creative Regions 2012). Australian Film Institute (AFI) The Australian Film Institute is non profit organization started in 1958 to develop a film culture in the country. It is also meant to promote engagement between the film industry in Australia and the general public. It produces the annual AFI awards. It benefits from the funds given by government, its 10,000 members and companies. It is the biggest association in the motion picture industry in Australia. It therefore works to promote the film and television industry in Australia. It also plays a key role in the activities of the film industry in Australia to present a good image to the local and international community (Australia Government 2012). Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) Its formation took place in 1956 after which it was given the name the Film and Television Production Association. SPAA offers representation to independent film and television producers on various industry issues and on the creative matters of screen production. Members of SPAA include feature film, television, TV commercials and animation among others. Each year SPAA organizes a conference and Fringe that give those in the film and TV industry the opportunity to know the developments within the industry (SPAA 2012). SPAA represents the TV and film industry to the government at the state and national levels. SPAA has the role of representing its members on the policy of the industry via writing and face to face engagements with the government, bodies involved in television and films and broadcasters as well as other key players in the industry (SPAA 2012). National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) This is Australia’s national peak body involved with the visual arts, media arts, craft and design sector. The body provides its members with referrals, expert advice, professional representation, grant programs and development among other related services. It also serves its membership through advocacy. NASA has succeeded on a large scale to cause change in policy and legislative matters in order to promote development in the sector and also to enhance professionalism in the whole industry (Surhone, Tennoe, Henssonow, 2011). NAVA is involved in advocacy, policy development, research, developing projects, collecting data and analysis. It advocates to all levels of government to support and promote the professional activities of artists and art organizations about their rights as well as their working conditions and financial matters. NAVA sets standards for best practice in the industry among them the lowest pay rates and the conditions to be followed in visual and media art and design professionals. NAVA publishes resources for professional practice and gives expert advice to all types of people dealing in visual and media art and design. They offer professional development courses online besides brokering opportunities for designers. It also has the role of representing its members to bodies involved in policy and decision making as well as convening advocacy groups in the industry. They work with the partners of the arts sector on projects, various campaigns and research. NAVA has the big role of representing its members and the visual and media arts and the design sector in forums and meetings (Commonwealth of Australia 2012).
