The Current Auraria Campus Safety plans According to the observation with regards to information provided in Auraria Campus Safety plans, it can be depicted that a. In any uncertain harmful incident, there are certain exits which are designed especially for emergency situations. Students/employees can use those exits such as ‘Green Illuminated Exit’ which can help to identify the nearest exit points. In this case it is advisable not to use the elevator which can be quite risky and may also cause life threatening dangers (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). b. In case of any active shooter, students/employees need to get down in the floor and hide themselves from the line of sight of the shooter and call ‘911’ or ‘(303) 556-5000’ either using campus phone or other private phone which will provide direct access to the ‘Auraria Campus Police Department’. Therefore, the students/employees can attain required help through appropriate guidance on that situation and also assist the police to recognize the location (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). c. Concerning the bomb threat, it is wise, not to use the mobile phones or radio devices within the range of 300 feet, as it can cause explosion. Furthermore, it is effective to leave the area and report for any kind of uncommon or suspicious objects such as briefcase or carrier to the ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). d. In case of fire incursion, it is recommended to use the closest fire alarm and inform in ‘911’ about the incident. It is suggested to leave the building where fire strikes out, as soon as possible, to avoid injuries. Furthermore, student/employees should enter the campus buildings only after taking authorization from ‘Emergency Personnel’ (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). e. In case of any natural disaster such as massive storm or earthquake, the students/employees can go to lobby at the lowest floor and must avoid staying near window in case there is no underground or other kind of shelter facilities. It is also advisable that students/employees need to stay in the safe zone until the calamities are over. Furthermore, students/employees can freely use the assistance of ‘Aursria Capmus Police’ or ‘Emergency Personnel’ (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). f. With respect to any suspicious individual, the students/employees are requested not to oppose directly or let any other person to stay in the particular building. In case of identification of any suspicious object, students/employees should not touch or interrupt it. At the initial phase, it is better to inform about the object to the immediate supervisor or faculty and the ‘911’ and then prepare to evacuate the area (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). h. In case of snow closures, students/employees need to close the windows and doors and tune into the local radio station or television to get the weather update. In case of emergency they can use the ‘24 hour’ help line (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). i. In power outage situations, students/employee must act prudently, as any wrong steps can lead to severe damages. First and foremost step that should be taken in such situation is to unplug the electronic devices such as computers and air conditioners among other objects (The Auraria Higher Education Center, “Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures”). Are there any procedure to deal with hazardous things such as flammable objects or chemicals in the campus? i. What are the measures used by ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ in case of natural disasters or high snow fall situations? j. Is there any security measures for incidents such as robbery? k. Is there any measures to prevent intruders to enter in campuses or office premises? Question 3 Provide your suggestions to the future reasonable development of Auraria Campus Safety plans (add space as needed). Make sure your suggestions are not already provided for in the materials you studied (the .pdf file, the video, etc.) and provide clarity of how they might be accomplished. a. It will be beneficial if there is an automatic warning system where ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ can be notified about any incident through message or instant email services. b. It will be useful to provide all the safety related information on the university website and corporate website so that students/employees can understand their role in certain emergency. c. It is recommended that ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ should provide demonstrations about how to find for crisis staffs which can help to make contact easily. d. There is inadequate information about managing disable people during emergency situations and therefore there is need for more detailed instructions which can guide individuals to deal with immobile individuals. e. There must be frequent emergency reaction exercises in the campus comprising activities people should do in different crisis situations. It will be much beneficial for students/employees to know their roles and accordingly react to the crisis. f. It is recommended that ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ should focus on certain safety measures in the campus such as employment of police in every building which will be helpful for identifying and detecting any crime and maintain safety for the people. g. It is recommended to provide special services for people who work at night within campus. It will be beneficial for safety of the people in emergency situations especially for women during night time. h. The services can be improved if the ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’ provide possible guidance for incidences such as robbery and teach the method to deal with the robbers in a safe manner. i. It will also be useful for the campus to install close surveillance cameras in certain places so that any suspicious or unusual activities can be monitored and dealt with. j. The personnel and staffs must receive extensive training which can help them to identify and address any issues probably leading to disaster and therefore assist in taking preventive measures. k. Any visitors should classify themselves before entering into school buildings or offices by signing the register book. Besides, it is also advisable to use ‘metal detectors’ in order to discover any hidden harmful object and accordingly prevent the right to enter in building. Question 4 What did you learn and/or find useful from this assignment? a. It helped to gain significant knowledge about various safety related issues b. The assignment was useful for understanding how to deal with particular crisis situations and how to act in appropriate manner in order to reduce the negative impact. c. The assignment also helped in understanding the helpline numbers which can be used for requesting assistance in emergency situations, i.e. the method to contact with ‘Auraria Campus Police’ and ‘Emergency Personnel’. d. The assignment provided an insight about different emergency situations and measures that should be followed. e. The assignment helped to gain understanding about how a person can help others in certain circumstances, such as during the period of evacuation or natural disaster or fire outbreak among other incidents. f. The assignment also provided the idea about the action that must be taken in case of threat of bombs or explosives such as avoidance of using mobile phones and radio devices and prevention of touching suspicious objects. g. The assignment further provided the idea about dealing with suspicious persons and active shooters without getting injured. h.
