Make Fundamental Changes in The Methods of InstructionPeople that have cognitive disabilities are no less than others. It is imperative that law considers their equal status and shows respect for that. This can be achieved by providing them with equal entitlements to all kinds of facilities. Not just this, there is need to make the necessary changes in the current methods of instruction in order to provide the people with cognitive disabilities with equal access to education. The author uses a list of specific human capabilities that are established as benchmark to define the social minimum.

The capabilities approach employs a threshold’s concept; there is an appropriate level for each important entitlement beneath which it feels justified to assert the lack of security of the relevant entitlement. Equality is a constituent component of the fundamental value that should be promoted and respected rather than a proxy for some other value. Government needs to be actively involved in making important changes in the regulatory system to provide the people with cognitive disabilities with equal access to educational opportunities since most of the poor parents cannot hire a lawyer.

The Act is biased toward the parents that are educated and articulated. Providing the students with cognitive disabilities with equal access to education comes with a cost that government ought to bear. The fundamental theme of this article is to elaborate the steps essential to provide people with cognitive disabilities with equal civil and political rights. I agree with the author that the theories of justice cannot pass the test fully if they are applied on the issue of disability as a test.

I think that the government and the policy makers should take objective measures to bring the status of the people with cognitive disabilities equal to others. Since education is the most essential factor that is affected by the cognitive disabilities, people with cognitive disabilities cannot be empowered unless fundamental changes are made in their educational system. Conventionally, educationalists tend to address the needs of the students with learning disabilities by inducing changes in their classroom environment like strategically locating their seats and trying to facilitate them with technology.

However, these students need a significantly different pattern of curriculum that should be exclusively designed keeping their weaknesses in view. I like the structured approach the author has taken throughout the article and the way he has organized the information. For example, he made three cases of services for the students with learning disabilities to analyze the services of the jury in. Inequalities in the political rights of the individuals with cognitive disabilities need to be examined under a severe judicial review standard that can only be justified by a compelling state interest.

In order to provide the people with cognitive disabilities with equal status, it is imperative that law provides them with more than just addressing their accommodation, economic, and medical care needs. Law should provide the people with cognitive disabilities with equal access to education even if that is costly and requires the concerned authorities to make fundamental changes in the methods of instruction.
