THE IMPACT OF INDIVIDUAL VALUES IN AN ORGANIZATION Name Class Lecturer School Date The impact of individual values in an organization Introduction Values are social, ethical and professional attributes of a character. It can be defined as things tremendously significant to either an individual or group (Vadim 2008) other people define value as what we consider to be correct. Mostly, many organizations have positive values that must be adhered to, and they include Professionalism, Caring, Teamwork, and Integrity also stewardship. While used wisely within the organization, values are extremely influential in making proper judgment; also accessing they would be outcomes. In terms of an organization, values are the essence of what it stands for and should be the basis for member’s behavior. A value differentiates between what is right and wrong and the act of either doing right or wrong is Ethics. (Alas 2009) The society is generally the pacesetter and thus, the first place to determine what is right or wrong. Values are the contributing factor that influences behaviors and feelings of all humans. There is different numbers of values that exist, and they contain Personal values, that provide a range of internal credit for what is valuable, significant, and constructive. These values are built by the immediate family members when a child is still developing. This helps explain the common problems experienced by human in order to survive. Besides personal values, there are cultural ones that are for the members of the society. The societal values are clearly identified by honoring those who have performed exceptionally well especially in sport, academics just to mention but a few. Individual’s values are the most natural and it helps in evaluating the significance of a person over any other thing. This value is in total support of democracy as it states that everyone has the right to determine what is acceptable. The family value happens to be the basic unit of the society as it ensures the continuity of the value and the practice of the family. (Antonio 2002) This set of relations value is maintained by tradition and belief. Professionally, people develop sets of values according to their profession, and each of these has its own standard which contradicts each other despite the fact that they are all crucial in performing, and delivering to their expectation. The national values are classified in a specific law that grants equality and justice to all citizens. After independence, every nation forms some values which keep changing with time and just like individuals, and families have to contend with each other for their survival, nations should do the same with other nations of the world. The moral values implementations are by the community and guarantee to keep people on the right path (Antonio 2002) these values are passed on from one generation to the next by the tradition. Initially the, Values are meant for a smooth functioning of the state, but in the real sense, a compelling government should not impose any law to its citizens but they are expected to act accordingly. However, this is not always the case as most just laws are drafted by the leader who focuses primarily on their own interests instead of looking out for the majority’s interest. This drift creates lives that are quite different where by most people happens to be immensely strong and rich while the rest lives helplessly and poor. The spiritual values are constant, and they join the entire human race. They are natural as all being understands them without necessarily getting an education on that. All other values change from time to time, but this does not change and it is likely never going to change for a long time. Individual values are the beliefs, and philosophies that we hold dearly in lives. To establish individualistic values requires an exhaustive search within us. There are various factors that contribute to the development of individual values, and they are natural, genetic or environmental. This individual value is what we refer to as the personality of a person and can be defined as enduring personal characteristics of individuals. According to Freudian psychoanalysis theory, there are two basic drives sex and aggression that motivates behavior and thus developing personality. These two drives allow procreating and get rid of the nuisance within the human race. This philosopher believed that personality consisted of three parts; the id, ego and super-ego. The id ensures to meet all the basic needs and is based on satisfaction i.e. wanting immediate gratification without minding about the consequences or considering the actual situation. In regards to William (2007) the ego develops after interactions and is vividly apparent in growing children. It meets the requirements of the id while still considering the fact thus constraining the id. The super-ego develops as a result of moral values instilled in us by parents and the elderly in the society. It is clear that strong super-ego inhibits the biological instincts of the id while the poor super-ego allows the id more room for expression. Having morals and values as an individual helps us distinguish between what is right and wrong. This enables us to meet our expectations and at the same time avoiding what is likely to cause us harm or misfortune. Values influence human beings, driving them to act accordingly. The main source of this motivation is the ego that has a duty of creating physical society like homes, interactive life, income earning and healthy lives. While making decisions, the mind refers to the value (Alas 2009) for instance, if one is to choose between a splendid work and the one that tends to pay more, it is likely that one would comply with their values. It is clear that when we do not comply with values, we end up feeling worse or even guilty. There are various techniques for exploring inspiration i.e. classic field work that involves expressing one’s feelings in their day to day experience. Also, one can imagine doing things that should be done but are not yet performed. Value being a significant role in lives, have the ability to solve own values get critical when it comes to rational decision making, and in an organization setting, it is essential for an employee to determine the employer’s corporate values since this would help them in performance rating. (Bob 2001).In an organization, employees have an obligation of respecting and portraying loyalty and in return, the employers should create a safe and favorable working environment. When all members of an organization are bound by a certain set of value, they become more flexible, and are able to work effectively making the production of the company often worthwhile. An organization whose leadership is based on principles always poses the ability to perform exceptionally well. In an organization setting, employers have a requirement of inspiring their employees and should be in possession of immense power in order to motivate their employees. It is ideally right for an employer to focus more on the importance of building a team and making others happy while working because this would be beneficial to both parties (Vadim 2008). Employers who employ this leadership succeed in acquiring collaboration with other prospective business partners. For the last several years, most employers have traded their own values with an objective of generating profit to the expense of consumers also employees. This act has degraded the jolly old fashioned morals. Influence is a key factor in every decision made and organizations are not exceptions. Individual’s and organization’s preferences are based on external factors like peer-pressure, marketing, advertising or want to try something new. All this is classified as influence. Organization wise, there is a direct impact that specifically reach out to the targeted audience, and in such incidents, businesses controls everything while , indirect effect involves a third party. This kind of settings might be a bit tricky as there is no guarantee that the audience will reach the intended message. After thorough research, I have come across different forms of value, their application and the effect they have on an individual and society at large. It is now clear that all humans have their own set of morals that sprouts from a tender age. This changes as one continues to grow or is exposed in a new territory with people of different characters. For one to survive in an organization, loyalty and respect is the main thing to apply in order to survive and interact directly with your boss and coworkers. Conclusion In conclusion, leaders especially those in business have an obligation to fight so as to achieve significant achievements in the global economy. It is advisable to keep in mind that reputable value should be applied everywhere for beneficial outcomes. Research shows that values are perpetual and nonnegotiable. Values determine the actions that we take, decisions that we make and the way we interact with other people. They tend to associate with the most powerful forces that govern actions. In most cases, business leaders’ compromise these standards due to desire for more power but eventually goes back to the truth. These values do not always take one to a comfort zone, and if they are adhered to, discontentment may occur, but that should not be a hindrance to doing what your conscience tells because that would make you earn respect and value yourself worth.
