Dr Clement cited the genes responsible for the BBS and Alstrom syndromes. BBS has been identified with eight different chromosomal locations with several mutations identified within some of them. Dr Clement (2004) explained that family studies have demonstrated that mutations of the Alstrom syndrome 1 gene are implicated.Philip T. James, Rachel Leach, Eleni Kalamara and Maryam Shayeghi (2001) stated that the prevalence rates for overweight and obese people are different in each region. Women show a greater BMI distribution with higher obesity rates than do men.

Obesity is now associated with poverty. New data suggest that abdominal obesity in adults occurs in those who had lower birth weights and early childhood stunting. This study differs from her study since its area of focus is the Body Mass Index.Barlow and William Dietz (1999) wrote that preventing weight gain and overweight among persons with healthy weights and avoiding further weight gain among those already overweight are important goals. The road to prevention must begin with an increased awareness of even small weight gains.
